Canine Skill Set
Do you need the Security Licensing endorsement for Guarding with a Dog?
If so, our Canine Skill Set course, might just be the perfect fit for you!
In the security industry, dogs perform an important role as both a visual deterrent and a loyal work partner.
Guarding with a dog is a niche area of the security industry, requiring full commitment from handlers and a need for ongoing training and maintenance for both the handler and the dog.
The current licensing requirements for dog handlers in South Australia is Certificate II in Security Operations accompanied with the Guarding with a Dog endorsement. (Please be aware that security licensing requirements vary in different states).
There are no pre-requisites for this course, however, we recommend it to those who have already completed the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations qualification or those who hold a current security licence and have some experience in the security industry.
Please be aware this course does not qualify you as a dog trainer and participants entering this industry should expect to undertake continual professional development activities for themselves and their dog.
This course is comprised of 2 units of competency which are delivered using a combination of:
- Online Knowledge Questions
- 2 contact days
- Assessment and homework tasks
The contact days cover pertinent components of theory and knowledge requirements, tied together through practical dog handling exercises and simulated assessment exercises.
This program is designed and delivered in consultation with our industry experts at OzcorpK9, to create a course that is impactful and challenging that meets both the unit requirements and industry demands.
Participants are required to complete online knowledge-based assessments prior to commencement of in-class training.
The online component of this course can be commenced immediately upon full enrolment and payment.
This program introduces you to the principles of canine management and handling with the support of comprehensive learner guides and assessment activities that are completed through self-paced external study and followed up by the practical skills-based contact days.
Nationally accredited certification on completion
On successful completion of this course, you will receive a statement of attainment for the following units of competency:
- CPPSEC3112 Manage training and well-being of dogs for security functions
